LOCATION
The Mase Project is located on northern end of New Georgia
Island in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands. The New Georgia
Island is part of the New Georgia Islands Group, approximately 1.5
hours flight time from Guadalcanal and Honiara, the Capital city
of the Solomon Islands. See our location
map.
EXPLORATION
Current trenching by XDM Resources has identified excellent
resource potential for copper-gold mineralisation (porphyry style)
within the Mase volcanic caldera as well as untested exploration
targets within the adjoining Pundakona volcanic caldera. See Mase
Project Map.
Mineralisation identified to date exposed in the base of the volcanic
caldera (Mase) extends over an area of >8km2. Several untested
targets have been identified via trenching in conjunction with new
airborne magnetic data completed by XDM Resources in 2008. An Induced
Polarisation (geophysics) survey will be completed prior to the
commencement of a Phase 1 drill programme in the second half of
2008. XDM Resources exploration sampling highlights to date include:
- Trench results of 41m at 0.81 g/t Au and 0.12% Cu
- Visible gold identified in outcrop with a maximum result of
545 g/t Au and 142 g/t Ag
Outstanding exploration potential also exists in an adjoining
volcanic caldera (Pundakona) which has been isolated from modern
mineral exploration due to its previous remoteness. Testing of targets
within this caldera will now be accelerated via new airborne magnetic
data completed in 2008 by XDM Resources together with recent logging
road access throughout the caldera.
