LOCATION
The Paraso Project is located on Vella Lavella Island
in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands. Vella Lavella Island
is part of the New Georgia Islands Group, approximately 2 hours
flight time form Guadalcanal and Honiara, the Capital city of the
Solomon Islands. See our location
map.
EXPLORATION
The Paraso Project is centred on the Nonda volcanic complex which
has suffered sector collapse (similar to Lihir) along the Paraso
Graben (a major crustal structure). Extensive high level hydrothermal
alteration occurs within the graben over an area of >15km2 which
contain active geothermal hot springs. See Paraso
Project Map.
Previous exploration within the hydrothermal system highlights
potential for epithermal style high grade gold and silver mineralisation.
Highlights from the work to date on the project include:
- Rock chip float sampling (Magnum Resources) maximum result
from previous exploration of 35g/t Au and 426g/t Ag
- Previous limited drilling (Magnum Resources) returned highlights
of 102m at 0.2 g/t Au
- Initial reconnaissance sampling by XDM Resources returned a
result of 3.95 g/t Au and 179 g/t Ag from a new logging road exposure
Exploration by XDM Resources will focus on targeting epithermal
style high grade gold mineralisation with the broad hydrothermal
system as well as adjacent structural targets identified in the
airborne magnetic data.
The Paraso hydrothermal system displays strong structural control
and exhibits metal and alteration typically of SW Pacific gold epithermal
systems.
